A Dedication for Dedication at APLD

Former Antioch Public Library District (APLD) Director Kathy LaBuda addresses the crowd gathered to honor her in APLD's Children's Department, 757 Main St., on Sunday, April 30. The Children's Department was dedicated to LaBuda who retired last year after serving as Library Director for 34 years.

Former Antioch Public Library District (APLD) Director Kathy LaBuda was honored at APLD’s Children’s Department, 757 Main St., on Sunday, April 30.

The Children’s Department of the library was dedicated to LaBuda in recognition of her 34 years of service as Library Director. Additionally, a portrait of LaBuda was unveiled at the ceremony. It will hang in the Children’s Department.

Speakers at the event included Library Board President Anne Kakacek, current Library Director Jennifer Drinka, Children’s Services Manager Kim Zupkoff, and LaBuda herself.

LaBuda was overseer of the library’s expansion which included three locations and the growth in the number of books housed at the library from 60,000 to over 180,000. She was also the first director to face the transition from the analog world of books to the digital media of the computer age.

The public was invited to attend the ceremony.
