Labor Day Marks the End of the Aqua Center Season

Little James Steiskal, 3, and Brooke Crivello, 5, say farewell until spring to lifeguard Sydney Kraus at the Antioch Aqua Center.

Bathing beauty Cassi Cudahy, 10, lets go with a giant smile as she stays cool in Labor Day's near 90-degree temperatures.

Looking like a soup tureen full of human vegetables, area swimmers seek relief from the holiday heat in the giant whirlpool at the Antioch Aqua Center.

Pretty Callie Boehlen, 7, prepares for launch from the diving board on the final day of operation for 2016 at the Antioch Aqua Center.

Unable to sustain altitude, Callie prepares for a controlled crash landing in the cool waters of the Antioch pool.

The curtain came down on summertime fun at the Antioch Aqua Center in Williams Park, 741 Main St., on Monday, Sep 5. Even though predictions were for temperatures to again soar to mid-summer heights, the center closed its gates after the Labor Day swimming session, marking the close of the pool for the 2016 swimming season.

The facility opened over the Memorial Day weekend and found its patrons enjoying hot and sunny weather for most of the summer. But with the return of the school year, aquatic pastimes have been shelved till next year.
