The Sequoit Sidekicks and APD Carrying the Flame of Hope

At approximately 6:15AM on Sunday, June 5, Sequoit Sidekick member John Kasbohn, 16, passed the Flame of Hope torch to his running mate, Antioch police officer “Z” Zack Johnson at Main St. and Rt. 173. It was the beginning of Leg 6A of The Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Sequoit Sidekicks and members of the Antioch police department carried the torch to Rt. 83 and Grass Lake Rd. where they handed it over to members of the Lake Villa police force who continued the run southwards.

The Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. It has raised more than $39 million over 30 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments. Approximately 3,000 officers representing every branch of law enforcement across the state from local police officers to FBI agents will carry the Flame of Hope nearly 1,500 miles, running through thousands of Illinois communities to its final destination, the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games June 10-12 in Normal, Illinois.

The ACHS Sidekick club was formed with the goal of making students aware of activities at the school and fostering involvement in those activities.
