The Lakes Region Historical Society (LRHS) opened another in their series of Civil War exhibits, “Ladies Attire of the Civil War–A Nation Mourns” at the Meeting House, 977 Main St. in Antioch, on Thursday, July 16.

This year marks the 150th observance of two historical events whose relevance still echoes in today’s America. The year 1865 marked the end of the Civil War and, less than a week later, the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Now on display at the Meeting House are original Civil War dresses and ladies’ accessories worn and used at the time those historic events took place.

Curator Ainsley Wonderling said that many of the articles are being displayed for the first time. She added that this will be the final time the exhibit will appear at the Meeting House.

The exhibit is open Thursdays through Sundays from 11:00am to 4:00pm through August 30. Additional viewing times can be scheduled by appointment with groups and tours welcome. Admission is $7 with funds raised going towards the painting of the Meeting House exterior. Parking is free.
